Kalani Fifita Sitake, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), is returning to his college alma-mater as the head coach of the Brigham Young University (BYU) football team.
Sitake returns to BYU with 15 years of coaching experience, including several years as a linebacker coach and defensive coordinator at the University of Utah, followed by a stint as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Oregon State.
According to “The Official Home of the BYU Cougars” web site, the former BYU football player was “Born in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, and raised in Laie, Hawai’i and Provo, Utah, Sitake becomes the first FBS head football coach of Tongan descent.
He is the 14th head coach in BYU history, and just the fourth since 1972, when Hall of Fame coach LaVell Edwards took over the program”
